Snow gear at Aldi

Okay I am not obsessed with Aldi, I just want to clear that up right now.

However, for the first time ever, as I usually ask my mum to help, I planned to be at Aldi for the 8am opening to buy some thermals for my daughter.

Little did I know that to line up at Aldi, on a Saturday, for snow gear is like throwing one chip in front of 20 sea gulls!

WOW!

I arrived in the parking lot and thought, sheesh there are a few people waiting for Coles and the shopping centre to open….. no, it was the line for Aldi!

This is what it looked like…

I realise it’s not very clear, but I also did not want to look like a weirdo, or even a tourist taking photos of random strangers in line for a store.

It was a good 60m long!

I rang my mum and explained. She told me, ‘yes that’s normal darling’. I think to myself this is insane!

I imagined a number of things! You will have to use your imagination to understand what I am about to describe!

As the line moved forward I told my mum in a whispering tone on the phone:

I feel like a sheep being herded and heading for slaughter…

What would happen if I lunged, like at a concert, onto the snow gear and just started yelling ‘my precious, all mine’ what would happen?

My final statement was; “mum what would happen if I yelled bomb”. I know that’s probably not a funny thought, but as I was being pulled into the abyss of Aldi, elbows, trolleys and super determined soccer mums it did cross my mind!

It was an adventure let me tell you. My daughter had better appreciate the pink commando thermals she now has!

Reaching over people, excuse me, sorry, excuse me… death stares and all.

I even watched two people literally compete, one hand on either end of a thermal top, as they glared at each other thinking, ‘I touched it first’

I grabbed and ran!

As I reached the till I turned and saw people sitting in the aisles trying on shoes and ripping open bags to see if they had the correct sizes! It was madness!

I made it out alive though, I know you were all wondering! Smiling all the way to my car and saying to those heading in, Good Luck, you’re going to need it!

I did however put the stuff in the car and more calmly grabbed an Aldi bag and headed back in for some bananas and yogurt. A much calmer experience.

If you haven’t been to Aldi at 8am before for a sale, try it, just for the fun of it!

Right now I do not even know how to describe me. I am a weak but I am strong, I have hit rock bottom and recovered. Some days I soar, others I hide. Writing comes at the most different of time!
